Kalev Tyllenin

I was born in 1967 in Estonia. When I was young I had many different athletic hobbies including cycling and skiing. I graduated from Agricultural College in 1986. From 1986 to 1988, I was in the Soviet army to defend Moscow’s air space. I was there when Mathias Rust flew a small plane into Red Square.
In 1989, I returned to Estonia to create a small farm. During the winters, I worked in Finland and in the summers, I was on the farm in Estonia. A friend and I bought 12 horses together and tried unsuccessfully to organize horse trekking. Somewhere in there, I was married for three years.
In 1991, I moved to Finland. For a time, I studied the Outdoor Leadership in northern Finland, which we call the Field of Adventure. My focus was on trekking, kayaking, and climbing. I also took a Russian course in Trade and Residence in St. Petersburg.

At some point, I became further interested in horse training and I devoted all my time to testing and training. I learned to practice Hempfling’s way and tested it. I learned Monty Roberts’ way and tested it. I did the same with most other major training systems, including Parelli, Leslie Desmond, and Marty Martens. I was so interested in learning. I continue to read a lot.
Early in 2000, I started using clicker training with horses. Today I use a mix of both natural horsemanship and clicker training.
In 2007, I quit my “real job” at the factory and founded the small group, Koikkaloikka (the “Funny Leap Team”), in hopes of pursuing the development of horseagility. In 2009, I self-published my book on horse agility.
Today I live in Pälkäne, Finland. Last summer, my daughter was born. Her name is Ronja and she is darling. After being a horse enthusiast for about 20 years, I am now training horses for living.
