The movement of individuals modeling horsemanship as an artistic practice.

Karen Clouston

Karen Clouston lives in Alberta, Canada where she enjoys wide-open spaces and acres of sky. Tamarack is presently her only horse.

Tamarack has never worn a bit, and his groundwork is done primarily without headgear. Tamarack is a registered Half-Andalusian, from the Caton family in Alberta, Canada.

Karen is inspired by her coach and friend Paul Dufresne. who operates the “Training For Courage Center” in British Columbia. Karen highly recommends him as a clinician.

Karen likewise recommends the The Art of Natural Dressage™ forum for information on horsemanship principles and training. She says, “AND is about putting the horse first, being bitless, and gearing all exercises for the physical and mental benefit of the horse.”

Karen loves Airedale Terriers and is involved in Airedale rescue. Karen believes that both dogs and horses respond to positive reinforcement and consistent leadership. She says that with patience and consistency, either a dog or horse will learn to look to you to determine if a situation warrants a fearful response, freeing them up to relax and leave the potential worry to you.

Karen also enjoys creating art in a variety of mediums, including painting, drawing and sculpting.

Of her art, Karen says, “A blank canvas leads to a creative adventure.” She takes the same approach to her horsemanship, and no doubt, to her life at large. “Where the highway of tradition ends, the path of imagination begins,” she remarks.
